Privacy Policy for X CountryBadge

At BuildMelon, we believe in transparency. This Privacy Policy describes how X CountryBadge – Twitter Account Location collects, uses, and handles your information when you use our browser extension.

1. No Personal Data Collection

We are a privacy-first tool. We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data.

  • No Tracking: We do not track your browsing history, search queries, or interactions on X (Twitter).

  • No User Accounts: You do not need to create an account to use this extension.

  • No Remote Servers: We do not have a backend server. The extension runs entirely locally on your device. We do not see who you are or which accounts you are checking.

2. How We Use Your Data

X CountryBadge functions as a “client-side” utility. Here is how data is handled during operation:

  • Account Lookups: When you click the “Pin” icon next to a username, the extension fetches publicly available or accessible metadata associated with that specific X/Twitter account (such as country of origin, entity name, or App Store region). This fetch happens directly between your browser and the data source. We never intercept, log, or store this data.

  • Settings: Your preferences (such as “Flag Mode” vs. “Text Mode” and enable/disable state) are saved locally in your browser’s storage so they persist between sessions.

3. Permissions & Technical Requirements

To provide its features, X CountryBadge requires specific browser permissions. We use the minimum permissions necessary:

  • storage Permission:

    • Why we need it: To save your display preferences (e.g., whether you prefer “Flags” or “Text” badges) and the extension’s ON/OFF state locally on your device.

  • declarativeNetRequest Permission:

    • Why we need it: This is a purely technical requirement. It allows the extension to modify specific network request headers to enable the “iframe-based fetch” method. This is the engine that powers the country lookup feature, allowing your browser to successfully retrieve the location data for the account you clicked. It is not used to block ads or track your network activity.

  • Host Permissions (e.g., twitter.com, x.com):

    • Why we need it: To detect usernames on the X/Twitter website and insert the “Pin” icon and country badges into the page layout.

4. Third-Party Services

This extension interacts with X (formerly Twitter) to fetch account information. When you use the extension, you are interacting with X’s platform, and their terms of service and privacy policy apply to your usage of their site.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page will always reflect the latest version.
