GrabText runs entirely locally on your device. All OCR (Optical Character Recognition) processing happens right inside your browser using built-in technologies. Your data never leaves your computer.
GrabText requires specific permissions to work. Here is exactly why:
activeTab: Allows the extension to capture the visible area of your current tab so you can select the text you want to grab.
scripting: Used to inject the selection tool (the cropping box) onto the page you are viewing.
Host Permissions (<all_urls> or specific sites): Required so GrabText can work on any website, including those that might block standard right-click copying.
GrabText does not use any third-party cloud services for text recognition. It uses a local version of the Tesseract.js library that runs directly in your browser, ensuring complete privacy.
