At BuildMelon, we care about privacy by design. This Privacy Policy explains how Radial New Tab (“the extension”) handles information when you use it.
Radial New Tab does not collect, sell, or transmit your personal data to BuildMelon.
No accounts: The extension does not require sign-up or login.
No analytics/tracking: We do not use analytics SDKs or tracking pixels.
No BuildMelon servers: We do not run backend servers that receive your browsing or search data.
To provide customization and persistence, Radial New Tab stores certain data locally using your browser’s extension storage:
Your settings (UI style, enabled features, search engine preferences, etc.)
Your shortcuts grid (shortcuts and folders)
Uploaded wallpapers and cached shortcut icons (stored locally, sometimes as compressed data)
This data stays inside your browser’s extension storage (e.g., chrome.storage.local / chrome.storage.sync) and is not sent to BuildMelon.
Radial New Tab can search using selected engines (including AI engines). When you perform a search:
The extension opens the selected engine’s website (for example Google, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity).
Your query is sent to that third-party website as part of opening the search URL.
Those services handle your data under their own privacy policies.
Temporary Chat options (ChatGPT Temp / Gemini Temp):
These options open the provider’s “temporary” mode using the provider’s supported URL parameters. The extension does not receive your chat contents or results.
When you use features such as grabbing a website title or icon, the extension may:
Fetch the website’s HTML to read metadata (title/icon info)
Fetch an image/favicon from that website to display as your shortcut icon
These requests:
Are initiated only to support the feature
Go directly from your browser to the website
Are not sent to BuildMelon servers
Radial New Tab requests only the permissions needed to provide its features:
storage
Used to save your settings, shortcuts, wallpapers, and icon cache locally (and optionally sync settings across browsers if supported).
scripting
Used to inject Floating Search UI into pages when you trigger the shortcut.
contextMenus
Used to provide “Search with” options when you select text and right-click.
tabs
Used to open search results in a new tab and to open the New Tab page when adding shortcuts via the popup.
favicon
Used to access favicon/icon-related data for shortcuts.
host_permissions: <all_urls>
Required because:
Floating Search needs to work on many websites.
Context Menu Search can be used on any page where you select text.
Icon/title grabbing may fetch metadata from the website you’re adding as a shortcut.
Radial New Tab does not use these permissions to track you or send your browsing data to BuildMelon.
Export: Creates a backup file (ZIP/JSON) on your device containing your settings and assets (such as uploaded wallpapers and icon cache).
Import: Reads a file you select and restores settings locally.
BuildMelon does not receive your backup files.
Radial New Tab does not include third-party analytics or tracking services.
However, when you use search engines or AI engines, you interact with third-party services (e.g., Google, OpenAI/ChatGPT, Gemini). Their privacy policies apply to those interactions.
We may update this Privacy Policy if the extension changes. Updates will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
